Our sermons are located in the Resources section on the page Sermons Online. It is nothing more than a blog page with the category “sermons”. Creating a new post for that page is the same as creating a post for any blog page. See “Adding and Editing Posts on Blog Pages” for more detail.
PDFs and images can be uploaded to these posts using the standard WordPress techniques. However, our sermon audio files are larger than WordPress will allow using their upload facility. This forces us to take a couple of extra steps to get them online:
- Transfer the MP3 sermon audio files to your computer
- Using any FTP program, connect to our server using the following:
- Host: alfchurch.us
- User: alfc_sermons
- Password: alfc_1234
- Transfer the files from your computer to the default directory on the server (there’s only one, and it comes up automatically) using the FTP program. Note: this is a safe directory for all users. You cannot get to any of the website files from here, and the sermon files are only here temporarily.
- Disconnect from the FTP server.
- Log in to your WordPress account dashboard at http://www.alfchurch.us/wp-admin. Enter your username and password.
- Select “Media” from the menu on the left, then select “Add From Server”.
- Select the checkboxes next to the files you wish to add.
- Select Import to copy the files into WordPress.
- Edit a new post with the category “sermons”. You can add PDFs or images using the standard WordPress techniques.
- To add the sermon audio to the post, select the musical note icon above the edit window.
- Select Media Library from the top row of the window, then select the audio file to insert.
- Insert the file, publish the post, and you’re done!
