Name, Title & How long you’ve been here at ALFC:My Family:
My husband Lee is the nicest, smartest, funniest, most patient man of God I know; he’s my bestest of best friends with whom I can always be myself (for better or for worse!!). After over 20 years in the US Navy submarine force, he’s ready to live ABOVE water for a change: Helloooo retirement 2011! We have 3 wonderful kids…Joshua (21), Jaclyn (17), and Eden (15). Josh is smart, super funny, and has a heart the size of Texas. He continues to grow every day as an adult and his dad and I are very proud of him and all that he’s striven to accomplish. Jaclyn has grown up to be the young woman I always wanted to be: self confident, smart, and secure, plus she loves the Lord with all her heart. She has a wacky sense of humor (which she exhibits 24/7 particularly on her prime victim, dad) and never fails to make me burst out laughing! Eden is a total crack up, an almost perfect 50/50 blend of her mom and dad. Her wit and wisdom are phenomenal, as is her deep love and caring for others. She always has a laugh and a smile and isn’t afraid to stick her neck out for what she believes in. We are blessed with a wonderful extended family (can I get a shout out to Larry, Sally, Sandy, Frank, Glenn, and Subie!!), plus a very fluffy cat named Leo…who established early on that he, in fact, runs the house.
Where I grew up:
Dad was in the Navy, so we moved around a LOT. Being an only child, I have lots of memories of me and my parents -the 3 musketeers- doing great things in some really great duty stations. Disney in Orlando, snorkeling in Cuba, exploring in DC, beachcombing in Hawaii, etc. I can pack and unpack like it’s an olympic sport ![]()
Education:
Twelve schools in twelve years was really no fun, but then graduation and college changed everything! I can recommend the University of West Florida, University of North Florida, San Diego State, and Troy State as AWESOME places to attend. A Bachelor of Science in Health from UNF and a Master in Foundations of Education from TSU have served me well so far.
Favorite Books:
Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis, and anything by Agatha Christie I could read over and over again! I love how straightforward the books of James and Judges are, and how powerful the entire Bible is as a perfect expression of the love of God.
Favorite Music:
If it rocks -and rocks loudly- I’m drawn to it. (Am I too old to count Skillet as one of my favorite bands???) I also enjoy oldies from when I was a teenager (I went to school with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob according to my son) all the way back to the big band era with artists like Harry James, Sinatra, and Nat King Cole.
Favorite Movies:
The Emperor’s New Groove is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Bringing Up Baby, The African Queen, Star Wars, Fantasia, and My Fair Lady (just you wait ‘enry ‘iggens!) are also favorites. I’m not much of a movie watcher, but give me some popcorn and a clean, well made flick and I just might join you.
Hobbies:
Hmm, okay, that’s a tough one. I tried to knit and the hat unraveled. I tried to ski and I spent more time face planted than upright. I tried ceramics and my vase exploded. Haha and on and on it goes! But I do enjoy tennis, touristing, beachcombing, and being outdoors with my family. My all time favorite “hobby” type thing to do is play board games with the family. Our numero uno is the game of “Life”…a totally hilarious and absurd evening spent together because we make it, ummm, unique ![]()
Favorite Scripture verse(s):
Oh so many! Jeremiah 29:11-13 never fails to remind me that the Lord is ALWAYS here.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.“
James 4:7-8 also speaks volumes:
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Heroes:
Believers worldwide who stand strong while living with the threat of persecution; Aimee Semple McPherson who was BOLD; teenagers who live out their genuine faith despite cultural ridicule; adults who aren’t afraid to be open and teachable; the OT women Deborah and Jael, because they were just fierce; kids who risk loving others even after incredible hurts; Jesus Christ because he brought me out of darkness into His marvelous light!
