In his sermon, The Disciple’s Prayer Haddon Robinson recalls:
When my children were small, we played a game. I’d take some coins in my fist, They’s sit on my lap and work to get my fingers open. According to the international rules of finger opening, once the finger was open, it couldn’t be closed again. They would work at it until they got the pennies in my hand. They would jump down and run away filled with glee and delight. Just kids, just a game. Sometimes when we come to God, we come for the pennies in His hand. ”Lord I need a passing grade. Help me to study.” ”Lord, I need a job.” ”Lord, my mother is ill.”
We reach for the pennies. When God grants the request, we push the hand away. More important than the pennies in God’s hand is the hand of God Himself. That’s what prayer is about.

What do you think prayer is all about?

I just read this and think it is worth repeating: when we aren’t praying, we are using our natural senses, sight, hearing, etc. In prayer, we are not using our natural senses, but our spirit. In the spirit we can let God touch us or speak to our spirit..we don’t need sight, we don’t need our physical senses, we need our alivened, re-born spirit to know God. So this is not a 6th sense, but a new living spirit that communicates with God, through the vehicle of prayer. I like this alot..it is from a long article in a monthly publication, so I had to paraphrase it for the sake of posting it here. Any thoughts? The prayer of faith is not one that has to see first, but believe.

God is our Father and He delights in giving us what we ask of Him. His personal touch is symbolic of loving us and whating us to be near to him. Then after we get what we want we leave him to follow our own desires. The open hand of God represents His favor. That we would not push the hand away and stay and see His delight so we can do more to please Him continually. Aftrr all, He did create us and provide everything we are about. We can wish to know Him so we can be more like Him when we come to our final destiny with Him.and in Him.
